It isn’t a secret that you must, should, and need to clean your CPAP equipment on a daily or at least a regular basis. You need to clean the hose, mask, and the CPAP Hose Coupling Swivel Adapter among other components. Below, we will discuss why this is the case and why it is so important.
The purpose of cleaning is to remove all the bacteria, the germs, and the viruses among mold and bad odors from the equipment. It is a simple and easy process that has huge importance. If you decide not to clean it, bacteria can cause skin irritations, airway irritation, and countless other things you need to worry about. But, with regular cleaning, there is no risk for that. You can be positive that the CPAP treatment will work perfectly as long as you need it.
Not all, but most elements of a CPAP machine do need to be cleaned on a regular basis. This is something we will have to discuss in detail below and something we will have to cover separately. Keep in mind that cleaning the actual CPAP machine isn’t needed. They do not require this due to the fact they do not make direct contact with the air you will breathe.
The first thing you need and you need to clean is a swivel adapter. It connects two hoses and it must be cleaned on a regular basis. The best way to do that is to use PrimeClean. This is an ozone cleaner. You will place the swivel adapted inside a bag alongside other components and you will activate the unit. Wait for 30 minutes and you are done. The process is fast, simple, and reliable. PrimeClean removes 99% of bacteria and germs. It also kills viruses and we do know that it can kill the COVID19 virus as well. Once the process is done, PrimeClean will convert ozone into ordinary oxygen we breathe and we are done. There are no other things to worry about or to keep in mind.
This gadget can be used for all the elements of the CPAP machine. The process is the same and there are no other differences. In fact, the time needed to clean them is the same regardless of the fact of how many elements you clean.
Obviously, these two come in contact with your face. They must be cleaned on a daily basis. Clean them every single time when you clean the swivel adapter and you will be fine. Try to remember that both of these things can accumulate bad odors, bacteria, and germs to extremely high levels. They will cause skin irritation or even worse irritation of the airways. In rare cases, they can even cause airways infection. When they are perfectly clean, there is no risk of any kind.
All CPAP machines have one or two filters. The main filter needs to be replaced once every 2 weeks. It is a thick and large filter that is commonly considered as the main air filter in the CPAP machine. Always inspect it to see is it dirty, clogged, or damaged. You should replace it as soon as you notice any of the just mentioned issues.
The white filter is ultra-fine and it is used for delicate air filtration. Make sure to replace it after 30 usages. This means that you should replace it once per month. Most users replace it even sooner due to the pandemic and we recommend you do the same thing. This air filter cannot be washed or reused.
Ideally, you will empty the humidifier chamber after each use and you will fill it with water in the evening. But, some cleaning is needed. First of all, use distilled water only. It doesn’t contain minerals or other substances that can accumulate inside. Then, always let it air dry. Use vinegar and warm water to clean it, wash it off, and reuse it. The hose which connects the machine to the humidifier should be cleaned with your CPAP mask, swivel adapter, and the hose.
These are straps at the top of the mask and they are used to keep the mask on your head while sleeping. They are very useful and without them, the treatment isn’t successful. As a matter of fact, without them, we cannot use the mask. Make sure to adjust them when needed. The mask must be firmly pressed against the face and must stay in one position even when you move.
Straps will get dirty over the weeks. They accumulate sweat, skin cells, and more. Ideally, you will wash them and let them air dry before the next use. Then, you are ready to use them again. They can be sterilized in PrimeClean bag but they need to be washed as well. Keep in consideration that they can and should be replaced. As soon as you notice any issue or complication from the straps, replace them immediately.
Now you know how to clean the CPAP Hose Coupling Swivel Adapter, machine, other components, and how to do all of that as easily as possible. There are no other things you need to know. Just remember that regular cleaning can make a massive difference and can protect you from irritations, infections and make the treatment much more comfortable and more successful.
