Connecting Oxygen Concentrator To CPAP Machine

Sep 11, 2020 by PrimeClean

Sleep apnea is a severe condition that limits the oxygen to your lungs and your body. Patients with this condition may experience shortness of breath, poor sleep, and headaches when awake. You may also suffer from COPD which is a lung disease. In both cases, you will need a CPAP machine and a CPAP Hose Connector. This treatment will provide sufficient oxygen to your lungs and body while you are asleep. Yes, you need to visit a doctor, but you also need to connect the equipment, which may be complicated.

Pieces Of Equipment You Will Need:

  •  CPAP machine
  •  Cannula
  •  Mask
  •  Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter
  •  Tubing

 Steps You Need To Take

Once you have all of the equipment mentioned above, you will need to connect them. This is a relatively simple task that will require a few minutes of your time. Keep in mind that each step is important and it must not be skipped.

1.  Check Out The CPAP Mask First

Most masks come without an oxygen port. In that case scenario, you will need a device called an Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter. It is really affordable and mandatory in this case scenario. If the mask has the mentioned port, it will be plugged with a plastic cap. Remove that cap before moving to the next steps.

2.  Connect The Tube To A Mask

The next step is to connect the tubing and the mask. Move the rubber connector on the hose itself and connect it to the mask. This may take a few seconds. Keep in mind that the two must be perfectly connected and there must not be any leaks!

3.  Attach Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter

Now you have to connect the OxygenBleed-In Adapter to the tubing. Attach it to the opposite side than your CPAP machine tubing and use the rubber connector.

4. Connect The Oxygen Concentrator To Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter

Use a cannula to connect the small port on the Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter to the oxygen concentrator. The connection should be tight and it must not leak, as you should know already. In addition, this port is a small tube on the Oxygen Bleed-In Adapter parallel to the main tubing.

5.  Connect To CPAP Machine

Now you will have to connect these components to a CPAP machine. It is a straightforward task and it will take a few seconds only. Make sure to turn on the CPAP machine first and then turn on the oxygen concentrator. When turning the equipment off, turn off the oxygen concentrator first and then the machine.

  • Mask must be snug when on the face but it must not cause too much pressure. Aim for comfort.
  • You can use a mirror to adjust the mask and make sure it is fitted properly.
  • Nasal pillows must be replaced every 6 months.
  • Start the CPAP machine first and then the oxygen concentrator.

  • Some CPAP machines do have a sensor that will detect leaks in the tubing. You will be notified once that happens.
  • If your mask is uncomfortable change it. Try to find one that is 100% comfortable at all times. This will make the treatment more comfortable and more appealing.
  • Do not use vinegar or any alcohol product for cleaning the mask. They can cause skin irritations.
  • Nasal dryness may happen at some point. If you notice this issue, start using a heated humidifier.

It is important to add that the CPAP machine, mask, and hose must be cleaned on a regular basis. The best option is Prime Clean. It is an ozone cleaner that kills 99% bacteria and germs and can even kill the COVID19 virus! It is 100% safe to use and needs 30-35 minutes to clean the equipment perfectly.
