Methods For Mask Sterilization
Many hospitals are already reusing their masks more than just once. To do that, they have to be sterilized. This is a process that involves heat, chemicals, ozone or something else in order to kill bacteria, viruses, germs, and similar threats. As a result, you get a perfectly clean mask which can be used over and over again. Obviously, cloth masks cannot be sterilized with high heat. They are usually processed with chemicals that have low molecular weight. In general, there are several methods mentioned below.
- Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide
Vaporized hydrogen peroxide is probably the most common method used at hospitals today. It is inserted into a vacuum machine that will break down the chemical and transform it into water. Some toxins are considered as by-products. We must add that water is needed for this process to prevent issues such as explosions which may occur due to hydrogen peroxide radicals.
Ethylene oxide can be used as well. It is very effective, but it is also very expensive and has side effects that have negative effects on humans. This method is rarely used these days.
Ozone is commonly used for CPAP machine sterilization and it is proved that it can kill COVID19 virus as well.There were countless studies proving the claim. Ozone is gas which has 3 oxygen atoms instead of 2 as you may know already. One advantage is the fact ozone cleaners can be used on soft materials and they do not generate fabric.
